History of Dental Implants

In 1952 a Swedish  Professor  Per-Ingvar Branemark conducted an experiments where he utilized a titanium implant to better understand blood flow in bone. His landmark discover was that bone had "fused" (integrated) completely with the titanium. Branemark termed this "osseointegration," and began is research on how titanium implants would work in the body.

  
Most historians beleive that that the field of "modern" osseointrated dental implants began  around 1965 when Dr. Branemark placed dental implants in a patient who had severe jaw deformities.Dr. Branemark is considered the first doctor to place titanium to be used as dental implants.

Today after years of careful research dental implants have upwards of a 95% success rate. Our Denver Implant dentists have patients who have had succesfull dental implants for over 20 years.
